Eilat
On your way down south we recommend you stop by at Beer
Sheva, The capital of the Negev. Beer Sheva
has a great university, and lots of college students that
run a pretty cool night life. (check out the local Bablo pub
if you are staying the night here).
If you are planning on passing through Beer Sheva you should
try to schedule it on a thursday, since there is a wonderful
Bedouin market that is more then worth seeing.
Also on your way you can stop at Mitpe Ramon were we warmly
recommend to stop at Machtesh Ramon (Ramon crater,
the largest one in the world).
The main road (Arava High way) to Eilat will shows you the
Arava in all its glory and deep colors which look best during
sunrise and sunset. You can make your way in a car or public
transportation.
From this road you can head down to Kibbutz Ein Yahav for
freshly picked melons or Hatzeva for water melon.
On other nice stops on the way Yotveta for some fresh cold
chocolate drink (-Shoko) .
Eilat is Israel's number one city for vacations, the local
people are friendly and mainly speak English. There are lots
of hotels, restaurants cafes, pubs and clubs as expected.
The summer (June-August) is the time of year you will find
lots of travelers here, swimming, snorkeling, or just making
their way to Sinai.
The red sea is known to be, one of the most beautiful places
in the world to scuba dive. Its also a great place to learn
how to scuba dive if you have never tried it, and to have
your first deep dive there. There is also a wonderful underwater
museum for a drier look at the deep waters of the red sea.
They city is divided up into sections, the hot one is not
far from the public bus center. There is a really good and
cheap CD shop on your way, just as you walk out of the bus
station, you can see the orange logo saying "Disc Club".
The night life here are great, you can stop at the Monkey
club for a drink or go dancing at one of many night clubs.
Eilat is the southern-most city of israel, there is a small
airport here but if you are considering going to Sinai it
is easy to cross the border not too far from the main center
of town. You can just cross the border with a car or check
a taxi. You can also ask were the nearest bus stop to the
"gvol" (-the border) is.
