Jerusalem Israel
Well what can we say about Jerusalem that hasn't been said
yet. The holy city for the three main religions: christianity,
Moslem and judaism. It is as if god has put there three together
so they will have to get along with each other. It is quite
amazing to see the religions blend together into one picture,
filled with color, tastes and sounds. The jews preying with
church bell and Moslem chanting .
Jerusalem Israel is beautiful; no less then the "city
of god" should be, heave stone surrounds all and a harsh
intensive energy is all around.
It is a law that one can not build in Jerusalem a house out
of cement or wood, all buildings must be built with the same
unique stone, as you can see everywhere.
Please keep in mind that this is a very holy city for many
people from all over the world. It is recommended to make
sure you take with you a log sleeved shirt and don't come
in shorts or singlet, as you will feel very uncomfortable
with the looks that you will get. This is extremely important
to some areas that are know for their strict lifestyles such
as the jewish Mea Shearin or any of the Moslem areas.
Except for walking the streets of the city, you can go to
the malcha shopping center or enjoy the great cafes
all around
The old city of Jerusalem is beautiful and rich in sights
and attractions. The market is a good place to start, its
colors and sounds are wonderful, check some local foods or
sweets. Our recommendation is that you try a lafa (a big pita
bread piece) with "shawarma or falafel and the Baklava
or the oreng Knafe for desert.)
The Kotel (The Wall).
The Kotel is maybe Israel's most important ancient exhibit.
It is a wall, surprisingly not as big as you would expect,
this wall was one of the outside walls of "beit hamikdash"
the ******holy part of Jerusalem It is were the Shhina
(-the soul of god) was supposedly set.
The wall is divided up to two parts one for men and the other
for women. It is best to come on one of the week days if you
want a quite relaxed atmosphere or on Friday midday if you
prefer to see the crazy chaos of people and foods .
As you approach the wall it self you will see it is absolutely
jam packed with littel, tiny pieces of paper. These are wishes
that people write to god, believing in the power of wishing
and the power of the wall. You are more then welcome to prepare
a littel piece of paper in advance to write your own wish
from god, or just write at the actual spot if you prefer.
Notice that it is polite to walk backwards from the wall,
in order to respect and not 'turn you back' to the wall.
It is important to realize that the Sabbath - the holy day
for the jews starts as the sun goes down on Friday and ends
on the sunset the following day. ( as mentioned there is no
public transportation on shabath ) It is interesting to spend
the weekend in Jerusalem and experience the quite roads and
the special spiritual feeling. You can greet the jews you
see going to the synagogue on Friday night, all dressed up
with "shabat shalom" wishing them a good peaceful
shabat.
We recommend that you buy anything you might need before
the Shabath as it might be difficult to find open shops.
Other things you should definitely go see are:
Yad vashem - the Holocaust Memorial Hall - this big memorial
hall is like no other in the word, you will probably spend
a few hours here, observing the different parts. There is
a separate hall made in memorial for the children of the Holocaust,
it was designed by one of Israel's leading artists - Agam.
The Biblical zoo
The Bell Garden
The Knesset - the parliament house, with
a beautiful Menorah statue (an important jewish symbol of
a holy 7 parts lamp)
Migdal David (David's tower) - best to see
it on sunset.
